Stuff and things, Chapter 3: Humanity Self-Extinction

Yes, we as a species have evolved beyond imagination in the last century. We have advanced more in the last couple of decades than we have for thousand of years. But at what cost? In this century past, we have used the majority of the Earth's resources, and in the long run, done more harm than good to our planet. Humankind sets itself apart from all other species on Earth. We see ourselves as the masters of this planet, and we as a whole believe that we have the right to do with it as we please.

The fact of the matter is, we are living on a finite planet, which offers finite resources. We have used up more resources in the past hundred years, than what has been used in thousands. Humanity is an over-indulging race which takes more than it needs, ignoring the consequences. In the past couple of decades people have been responsible for the extinction of dozens, if not more, species. We have used up much of the oil, choosing to ignore better alternatives until it is nearly too late. Mankind has set the stage for it's own destruction, and we have left this decaying planet for future generations to deal with.

We mercilessly slaughter animals to feed our ever-growing population, we force them to live in conditions which are far worse than even the most ruthless concentration camp. We buy and buy, then buy some more. Our technology is constantly advancing, making perfectly good products seem obsolete almost instantaneously after you buy it. People are always looking for the newest gadget so that they can keep up with popular trends. People go to work to earn money to keep up with these trends, spending thousands of dollars a year to have the latest product. Money, by the way, is such a superficial concept. It is a well known fact that in centuries past, people could go to a bank, and exchange money for its price in gold. Today, however, this is not the case. At any point any government in the world could cease the production of its currency. The thousand of dollars you have saved up for years could become as worthless as dirt at a moments notice. The truth is, we are blindly wasting the resources that could have sustained our race, and this planet, for thousands of years to come, yet we choose to waste it on useless commodities that give us this false sense of accomplishment and happiness.

So, all in all, we humans are quite stupid. To put it bluntly, if this planet, and the trillions of inhabitants on it wish it survive much longer, the human race needs to go. We are sucking the life out of the Earth faster than a fat kid at McDonalds eating a Big Mac. Does the constant technological evolution outweigh the devastating impact on the planet? New technology could lead to newer, better ways of living. But we have the technology to do that right now. There are thousands of scientists who offer up hundreds of examples on what we could do to sustain this planet and live our lives better. But, there is one group that doesn't wish this to happen: The Government. Most Governments are only interested in self-gain, and profit. The Government doesn't care about your petty problems, it only cares about itself.

To finish this off, whatever this is. We have set the stage for our own extinction. We over-indulge in finite resources as if they were infinite. We take what we want from the planet, when we want it, not even considering the repercussions that we will face in decades to come. We can not continue to live the way that we live, I know it will be hard for the majority of the planet, but we need to completely revamp the way that we have been doing things over the past couple of centuries. In order to do that, the people need to stand up for what they believe in, because the fact of the matter is, the people shouldn't fear their Government, the Government should fear its people. Things will not change on their own, people need to be the change. So next time you see a new piece of technology, don't act on impulse, If you have an Ipod touch, don't buy the next-gen touch when it comes out a year later, yours is still perfectly fine.

Stuff and things, Chapter 2: Ignorance=Bliss?

Ignorance. The downfall of humanity. Some seem to believe that ignorance is bliss, but is this true? This false belief is based upon the premise that what we don't now cant hurt us. People blindly 'follow the leader', because they are scared what they may discover if they ask questions. People think that just because they ignore something, and pretend it is not there, that it will go away.

Ignorance comes in many forms, whether it be social ignorance, religious ignorance, or cultural ignorance. People would rather seclude themselves from the truth than risk exposing what may really lie behind something. Are peoples minds so weak that they can not handle the harsh reality that they may face? Everyone seems to think that they may find bliss in ignorance, but is this really true? We as humans crave information, but many of us choose to stay ignorant rather than possibly sacrificing bliss for knowledge. Wars are started over the fact that one culture is ignorant of the other; could this be solved by the simple fact that these so called 'leaders' who make decisions are simply uneducated?

The fact of the matter is that we are all ignorant in one way or another. Even an expert who knows 99.9% of what there is to know on something is still ignorant of that .10% that he has yet to learn. People who are aware of their ignorance know that they are not informed enough to have a set opinion on something. Those who are truly unaware of their ignorance walk around with a wall in front of them which blocks off simple fact in the hope that truth will not break that wall. As they say "The truth hurts", which walks hand-in-hand with "Ignorance is bliss".

So, that is what I think of ignorance. Ignorance is a wall that blocks humanity from true unity. Humanity as a whole is willing to stay blind in the hopes that they will be allowed to continue their day-to-day lives uninterrupted. So if bliss is happiness and ignorance is a lack of knowledge, then are we as a society happy not being aware of everything going on around us? I'll leave you with a Chinese proverb that I found, which pretty much summarizes what I've blabbered on about. "The more one learns, the more one sees one's true ignorance".

Stuff and things, Chapter 1.

This is my first blog, so try your hardest not to be too critical. I'm not sure what to write about, so I guess I'll start by writing about my life for the past week and a bit. Starting with Sunday, two weeks ago, I had finally gotten my car insured, though I had been out of a job for about a month, I still thought it was high time to get it on the road. It is an unassuming little white 1990 Honda Civic, it is an old car, but its still going, and hopefully it will keep going for at least the next couple months.

Now, to get back on topic with, well, life. I had recently applied to a course (and soon after denied) that I had kind of been pushed into taking. But luckily, In the process of applying for this course, I had met a very enthusiastic counselor at Career Link. She showed me a similar course to what I had previously been applying for, It payed better, and was actually a course that I was personally interested in, not something I would just take to get by for the next month.

So, as you may be able to guess (to my surprise), I was accepted into said course, otherwise I probably wouldn't be writing this, to myself, right now. I have found interest in not only personal goals, but also in goals that others in the group have set for themselves. The group is very diverse, in both name, and personalities. Luckily for me though, none of these personalities have clashed, yet. I believe it is the perfect group to reach the goals that we have put forward for ourselves and each other, and I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to do it with. The End.
